Originally built by Jeffboat in 1972 as the Wilbur Mills for American Commercial Lines, the vessel has served under several names throughout its long career, including Loree Eckstein and Steve E. Bryan, before receiving its current Marquette Mariner name in 2020.

Historical Notes

Few inland towboats have operated under as many recognizable names as the Marquette Mariner. Built as the Wilbur Mills in 1972, the vessel later joined Marquette Transportation where it became the Loree Eckstein, then Steve E. Bryan, before receiving its current Marquette Mariner name.

Despite the name changes, the vessel remains a familiar sight throughout the inland river system and continues to represent one of Marquette's large line-haul towboats.

Model Accuracy

Models are produced in the likeness of the vessel and emphasize overall appearance and character rather than exact reproduction of every feature. Most designs are created from photographs and publicly available reference material rather than original construction drawings. Certain details may be simplified, modified, or omitted to improve durability, appearance, and manufacturability at scale.

The Marquette Mariner is part of a group of large Marquette line-haul towboats that includes vessels such as the Ray A. Eckstein, John Paul Eckstein, Marquette Veteran, and other long-serving boats that have operated under multiple names throughout their careers.
